Sarina Rattan is a recent music graduate from the University of Birmingham, where she specialised in conducting, violin, and voice. Whilst studying, she was an active member of the University Music Society participating in the University Philharmonic Orchestra and singing in the Birmingham University Singers as well as other small vocal ensembles. She also participated in other University societies such as the Bhangra Society and A capella Society. Sarina has been fortunate enough to have sung in choirs since the age of 10 including Voices in Partnership, Redbridge Youth Choir, and Serafine Chamber choir, and more recently was a member of the CBSO Chorus. Aged 15, She co-conducted her school’s chamber choir and at 17 was appointed head chorister of Chigwell School’s Chapel choir and performed in prestigious venues such as St. Paul’s Cathedral La Sagrada Familia, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall. Sarina also enjoys arranging and has created some vocal arrangements for one of the University’s Chamber choirs and for her a A capella group.

Currently, Sarina is working as a keyboard, violin and music teacher with Brent Music Service and was recently awarded a fellowship position with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain beginning in 2023.

Aside from her conducting experience, Sarina is a hard-working, enthusiastic individual and, when not engaged in musical activities, is a keen swimmer and takes commissions for portraiture in her spare time. She aspires to gain more experience in the arts sector and to continue her conductor training towards a professional level in order to diversify this area of the music industry. She feels very lucky to be working with the choir from Merkle this year as not only are they fantastic singers but they are a lovely community to rehearse with.
